      FAQs

Chikankari is a centuries-old hand embroidery technique that originated in Lucknow, India. Known for its delicate, poetic needlework—often done in white on light fabrics—it is one of India’s most refined textile arts, evoking a quiet sense of grace, luxury, and heritage.

Chikankari dates back to the Mughal era, with Empress Noor Jahan said to have played a key role in its popularization. Over time, the craft evolved across generations of artisans in and around Lucknow, becoming a symbol of timeless Indian elegance and artisanal finesse.

All our Chikankari pieces are hand-embroidered in and around Lucknow by skilled artisans who have inherited this legacy. For authenticity and artistry, the work is not done in our factory but coordinated through trusted hands in the heartland of this tradition.

Because of the slow, careful nature of this craft, timelines can’t be rushed. Each piece goes through intricate embroidery, coordination across towns, thorough fabric cleaning (as materials often get soiled during handwork), and multiple rounds of quality checks. This results in occasional delays—but we believe the final garment is always worth the wait.

Our Chikankari collection is a blend of heritage and high standards. While embroidery is done by hand in Lucknow, stitching and finishing are handled in our Delhi workshop to ensure consistent sizing, structure, and impeccable tailoring. Several pieces are rejected during quality checks because we accept only the finest craftsmanship.

We use a carefully curated selection of luxurious, breathable fabrics to complement the embroidery, including:

      • Mulmul

      • Chanderi

      • Pure Cotton

      • Cotton-Silk

      • Silk Organza

      • Silk Georgette

These fabrics lend a feather-light grace and enhance the beauty of the embroidery.

While mass-produced Chikan kurtas can be found for ₹200–₹300, our pieces are defined by:

      • Fabric quality – Handpicked luxurious bases that drape beautifully

      • Block and motif selection – Custom, curated designs for subtle sophistication

      • Embroidery fineness – Inclusion of rare techniques like ek taar, do taar, and jaali done only by skilled karigars

      • Colour palettes – Soft, romantic shades chosen by our design team

      • Tailoring – Fine finishing in our own Delhi workshop with perfect fits

Every detail—from thread to trim—reflects the luxury of slow fashion and artisanal excellence.

With younger generations moving to cities and taking up alternate professions, fewer artisans are practicing Chikankari. Every piece you buy helps sustain a fragile, fading art form. It is a tribute to Indian patience, poetry, and quiet craftsmanship.
